Happy May Friends!!!
This week I would like to take a bit of a different approach and focus on SELF. There is a previous post on this blog from an intuitive life coach that talks about self-care. Although I only practice ABA, I have connected you all to this source because BURNOUT IS REAL!!!!!! Working with other living beings is EXHAUSTING! Whether you are working with children, or adults, as a parent, a professional, guardian, etc.; working with living beings, with their own opinions and feelings, can be rough at times.
You have to find something that works for you!!! This can be yoga, meditation, going out dancing, reading a book, etc. Anything healthy that you find relaxing, or a release, so that you can reset and get back to your most patient self.
WHY IS A RESET IMPORTANT TO PREVENT PROBLEM BEHAVIORS? One of the tricks to preventing problem behaviors is to create and maintain a positive environment. If we are pouring from an empty cup, we are usually not the most patient and kind individuals during that time. These things that influence our behaviors are setting events, or slow triggers. Setting events are events (things) that make behavior more or less likely to occur. For example, have you ever heard someone say they are “hangry”? If I am hungry and you ask me a question, I will be more likely to display problematic behavior. This can happen when someone did not get enough sleep, missed a medication, is too hot or cold, or there is a sudden/unexpected change in schedule for example. Therefore, making sure that we try to avoid these setting events is important for us! This makes it less likely that we will display problematic behaviors. We cannot expect our “they” to behave a certain way when we are not providing a positive environment for them to thrive in with us.
I will leave you with this today……. It starts with SELF! As a parent myself, I understand how hard this can be at times. It is hard to find time for yourself, but it is SO IMPORTANT to make sure that you are NOT pouring from an “empty cup” (you are avoiding setting events from making your problematic behaviors more likely). I hope to grow and build this business and connect you all to resources that help you find what works for you. Tonight we will start with a Self-Care Sunday meet and greet. If you can attend, great. If you cannot, no worries. There will be a recording up on the website that you can view later.

Happy May and Happy Sunday! You’re doing great and you are appreciated!
